The American Party
For God, Family, And Country
For God, Family, And Country
Kind of strange one, this party, showing fairly conservative mind sets while also leaning toward the far right side of the political spectrum based on their nationalist tone.
Below are the party's key values and planks:
Essential Planks:
Pro-life
Pro-gun
Anti-tax
Farm price supports/subsidies
Privatization of the US Postal Service
Platform--Major beliefs and values:
"As free citizens of the United States and founders of America’s Party, we stand in agreement with the founders of our American Republic. Following their example, we declare to the world that our first governmental premise is the self-evident truth that our rights to life, liberty and private property come from our Creator God and are therefore unalienable. With those patriots, we understand that just government can only exist by the consent of the governed."
-Essentially, this political party is very active for the more original wording of the constitution and defend it vigorously.
Below are some major oppositions the party holds:
Opposes federal involvement in education
Supports abolition of the Environmental Protection Agency
Supports repeal of NAFTA. (North American Free Trade Agreement)
Opposes minimum wage laws
Opposes land use zoning regulations
Opposes convening a Constitutional convention
Opposes the United Nations
Against the New World Order
Opposes Communism
Opposes Socialism
Opposes Trilateral Commission
-Very conservative and unwilling to be open to new or even slightly controversial ideas, and even organizations that try and establish better world relations such as the United Nations.
Party Leaders, supporters, and nominees.
The various leaders /nominees that the party has had include US Senator Jesse Helms (R-NC) Governor Mel Thomson (R-NH), but, these two only "flirted" with the American Party then declined nomination. Another considerable leader would be Diane Templin, (an anti-gay rights activist) A more recent nominee would be Former GOP State Senator Don Rogers of California, however he failed to qualify for ballot status in any states.
Popularity:
In recent years, the American Party has lost considerable popularity and is a very small and very conservative Christian splinter party formed after the break from the American Independent Party in 1972. The party's 1996 Presidential candidate, Diane Templin, only carried a mere 1,900 votes, showing the dwindling support that this group maintains. Support for this party has only gotten worse since then, however, they do claim that they have local affiliates in 15 states. In 2000 and 2004, the party's Presidential ticke failed to even qualify for the ballot in any states and were forced to run as "write-in candidates". Diane Templin was the party's 2004 and 2008 Presidential nominee, but failed to secure any ballot access. And as recent as 2012, the party did not gain a Presidential ticket.
Why are they not winning elections?
A relatively simple answer can be brought from some obvious facts about third parties. They never, and if they do it is quite rare, win any sort of election. The American party systems has almost completely been polarized between Democrats and Republicans, and too be in the middle or on either extreme makes it difficult to culminate support by voters or even endorsement by other political figures. For decades this party has declined greatly in support as it did at one time have a substantial number of candidates. A good reason they have not rallied much support may derive from their more radical oppositions to generally well perceived concepts, such as the United Nations (regardless of its flaws), minumum wage laws, and trade agreements such as NAFTA that encourage trade and in North America and most likely increases international relations. The part also tends to have a nationalistic conotation to their name, and this would definitely not cooperate well with modern politics, especially with the level of international relations we have today. The most important reason they haven't won any sort of elections in recent years is largely due to their anti-progress esque attitude which is never a good cultivator for support.
Since the American Party derived from the American Independent party, the following video sufficiently shows you the same basic values and lets enjoy some good ol' fashion propagandist material, enjoy.
